A Certain Style, The Art of the Plastic Handbag, 1949-59 by Robert Gottlieb and Frank Maresca is long out of print and extremely hard to find. This is a first (and only) edition, published in 1988.

This book tells the history of the lucite purse and the fascinating story of how Robert Gotlieb, former editor of 'The New Yorker' magazine, accidentally started his incredible collection. But the best part is the fabulous purse photos, 92 full-color, full-page photos. This is a hardcover book with dust jacket and measures 10-1/4" x 9-1/2". There is no price guide which would be outdated and price guides in purse books, even recent publications, are often extremely inaccurate and therefore of little value anyway.

The hardcover book is in excellent conditon, however, the paper jacket is wrinkled and torn (scotch taped) at the bottom right corner. Please see inset photo above. The former owner has signed their name inside. There is also a red dot (remainder mark) on the spine. The purse pages have no tears, folds, marks, writing, or dirt. An great opportunity to own this rare out-of-print for a bargain bin price.
